New North Carolina Democratic Gov. Josh Stein wants Republicans in charge of the legislature to roll back upcoming income tax cuts and scale back private school vouchers that expanded dramatically recently.

Senate leader Phil Berger said Tuesday he鈥檚 not concerned by a projected $823 million drop in state revenue in 2026.

Using a 0-100 scale, the quarterly survey measures 鈥淐FO optimism鈥� about the economy. That number jumped from 62.8 before the election to 68.8 following the November vote. Construction companies and manufacturers reported the largest increase.

The tax-cut package endorsed by North Carolina Senate Republicans has received initial approval with the support of some Democrats. Eight Democrats joined all Republicans in voting for the measure Wednesday.
