Thousands Will Graduate This Weekend

Commencement season begins in earnest this weekend, as several area colleges and universities hold graduation.

UNC - Chapel Hill graduation takes center stage on Sunday morning, as the main university ceremony takes place in Kenan Stadium. Pulitzer Prize-winning entomologist E.O. Wilson will be the commencement speaker.

Thousands of undergraduate students will receive their degrees in newly-designed gowns. UNC alum Alexander Julian vowed his son would not graduate in an "aqua" gown. Julian re-fashioned the gowns into a more true Carolina Blue. Shaw University also holds its commencement ceremony later today. The Raleigh school cancelled classes three weeks ago, after tornadoes caused significant damage on campus.
