¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ Takes Home Five Murrow Awards

The Radio Television Digital News Association () has awarded ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ five Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the regional award in overall excellence.

The Murrow Awards honor outstanding achievement in electronic journalism.

¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾'s competition region includes stations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. This is the seventh year in a row ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ has received regional awards.

The 2017 regional Murrow awards were given to ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ in:

Overall Excellence

For depth and scope of stories, consistency, quality of features, and online presence, ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ won a Murrow award in regional overall excellence.

Beginning in March 2016, ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ covered the contentious "bathroom bill". ¼ª²ÊÍøÍøÕ¾ reported more than 100 stories around HB2's impact on North Carolina, culminating in a one-hour , "A State Divided: HB2 and Transgender Rights."

Rural counties across the state are not experiencing the economic recovery underway in the Triangle, Triad or in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region. The unemployment rate is higher, the poverty rate is higher and the high school drop-out rate is higher.
