The Alamance-Burlington School System, Burlington Pediatrics, and Cone Health have partnered to provide students at Hillcrest Elementary School with telehealth services during the school day.

In McDowell County, at the eastern base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, students from Old Fort Elementary are returning to class Monday – but not to their school building.

The Spanish Immersion program is for elementary-aged students learning to be bilingual and using critical thinking skills with core subjects in school.

"Overall, it's incredibly good news for all students in our state," said State Superintendent Catherine Truitt.

During the pandemic, students nationwide received free school lunch, but that policy expired last summer. Now, state lawmakers are considering whether to include funding in the next state budget to help more students afford lunch.
