The top three candidates in the race for governor are ready to square off in one last debate.
Republican incumbent Pat McCrory, Democrat Roy Cooper and Libertarian Lon Cecil will debate at 7 p.m. in Raleigh tonight.
The race has been one of the most competitive in the county.
McCrory, Cooper and their political allies have spent about $20 million on TV ads. They offered sharp criticisms of each other in last week.
At that debate, McCrory and Cooper exchanged verbal blows from the outset. Moderator Chuck Todd immediately asked about House Bill 2, the controversial state law that limits protections for LGBT people; and later touched on issues of the economy, education, police footage and healthcare.
An average of recent polls show McCrory trails by four points. He has been out-raised and outspent by a roughly three-to-one margin. And he is in danger of becoming the first governor to lose a re-election bid, since they were eligible to do so in the 1970s.
