Two disaster relief centers in Greensboro will close this week. City officials said they want to focus on long term recovery plans.
The first disaster relief center, at the Peeler Recreation Center, closed earlier this week.
The second one, at the Willow Oaks Community Center, closes Friday at noon.
Both sites opened more than a week ago in response to the residents affected by April 15 tornado. The tornado primarily hit the east side of Greensboro with maximum winds up to 135 miles per hour. It was classified as an EF-2 by the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
City officials are waiting on state and federal agencies to make decisions regarding financial support for those in need.
In the meantime, the city is still attempting to contact all former occupants of homes that were destroyed or damaged by the tornado.
Various churches and nonprofits in Greensboro are still offering assistance to residents who need housing, food and other supplies.
