Amy Ray is likely best known as a member of the duo the Indigo Girls. She has a solo career as well and this week the Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter released her first country record. It's called "" and it has tons of North Carolina connections. It was recorded at in Asheville. There are local musicians involved, like the brothers from .
Amy says that the record is a direct reflection of the comfort she feels in the Tar Heel state:
So I guess what you want to be able to say after you made a record is that you got what you wanted musically and you had a good time doing it. I spent seven days in Asheville, NC with some really gifted, soulful people. It doesn't get any better than that. I feel lucky. And that's good enough for me.
